...The writing is astounding....
Do I think there are some top 10 hits here ? .....Besides, "I Just Called To Listen", there is of course, "John Law", but I could easily see "Lay It Right Down" and "I'm Just Going Home" making it to the top....
My opinion of this album is...it took a long time to get here and well worth the wait !

...Our pick of the tracks (and there isn't a weak one on the album) is "I Just Called To Listen"... The lyrics are brilliant.... Any would-be songwriter should listen to this to see how a great song is put together, BREATHTAKING.... That Homer Joy can sing is proved conclusively on "Sure Gets Cold When It Rains", BRILLIANT... A lot of today's "writers and singers" could learn a lot from "Jailhouse Relation". Brilliant lyrics, superb yet simple melody.....this song could well be a chart success... there's something of the late Jim Croce on "Lay It Right Down"...though Croce would never have given it such a rebel Country edge...This album title is understandable, but inaccurate: Homer : it IS Country...
Our view: An absolute joy. BUY IT !
John Lewis
... Along with his duet with Buck Owens, "John Law", I LOVE the REAL Country feel to the songs, "Oklahoma Blues" and "Okie Road". Also enjoyed the little dig at non-talented bands in the tune, "Play Me Some Rhythm and Blues"...
Barry Wilson ...Joy has a unique sound for Country Music. It's traditional with a hint of Rockabilly and a flair for the Bakersfield Sound, with odes to the Sooner state - "Oklahoma Blues" and "Okie Road". It also has some fine ballads like, "She's An Angel". Probably too Country for today's Country radio, but that shouldn't mean anything to real Country Music fans...

what if you gave a party and "everbody" showed up ?

Kyle O'Brien and new bride Khayla began their It was fun, watching kids learn to "line dance" The fans came early and stayed late
CHARLIE KINGS PLACE Every where HOMER JOY appears, it turns into one of those "you just had to have been there" events...Homer was asked by one elderly couple if they could dance...Homer's answer set the tone for the rest of the evening and for all the other guests..."This is YOUR party and you can do anything here you want to. Nudity is probably out of the question, because that's illegal, but anything else you do is fine with me"... At the opening, the house band, "Touch of Country", with James Hamill playing Bass and doing most of the front work, proved they could be better than GREAT !... Just 30 minutes into the first set and Obviously, the center-point of the evening was the introduction of the new Homer Joy CD, "Someday It'll Be Country"..Expectations were high and no one was in the least disappointed...
The first cut played off the new CD, was the Homer Joy duet with long time friend, the great Buck Owens...The song was, The song was played from an empty stage, as a tribute and reminder, that one of Country Music's greatest Stars may be gone, but his music will live forever.... ! During the first two sets, Homer sang songs from "Someday It'll Be Country"... Then, came back for the rest of the evening with "Touch of Country" and did what he does best... Put on a great show for those who came to watch, played "ass-kickin" Honky Tonk for those who came to dance. Then, to end a perfect evening. Homer stayed to sign autographs and CD's, take pictures and visit, until the last Party goer received a warm hug and was wished a very....GOOD NIGHT !
